Conor McGregor was scheduled to fight Rafael Dos Anjos in 2016 for the lightweight title
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3 is inching closer, and McGregor looks to be at his ‘trash-talking and motivated’ best ahead of the fight.
Their fight will headline UFC 264 which is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, this weekend.
While there has been no official backup fighter named for the fight, former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos has been rumoured to fill up that spot after being spotted at the fighters’ hotel in LA, cutting weight.
With the news about RDA taking up the backup fighter spot doing the rounds, McGregor posted a marauding tweet stating that he wouldn’t mind if he was to fight both Poirier and RDA at the same time.
McGregor wrote:
“Put dos anjos in at the same time.”
McGregor will be hoping to talk the talk and walk the walk this time around.
Back in 2015, McGregor became the featherweight champion after demolishing Jose Aldo at UFC 194.
Following his victory over Aldo, McGregor expressed his desire to move to the lightweight division in a bid to become a two-division champion.
A fight between McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos was scheduled for UFC 196 in March. However, just a week before the fight, dos Anjos broke his foot and pulled out of the fight.
The hunt for a replacement began. In stepped Nate Diaz. And, that was a major turning point in McGregor’s career. ‘The Stockton Slugger’ earned a shocking 2nd round submission win over McGregor to inflict his first-ever UFC loss.
