Conor McGregor suffered a broken ankle at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier
Fans wouldn’t have wanted to see an ending like the way the main event of UFC 264 ended. It was one of the most anti-climactic endings to a fight of massive intensity.
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3 came to a premature end after McGregor snapped his ankle at the end of the very first round of their fight.
The officials, upon checking McGregor deemed him unfit to continue, even as the ‘Irishman’ hurled a barrage of expletives towards Poirier and his wife Jolie. Poirier won the fight via. TKO
McGregor was then stretchered off, just a day after he had predicted that he would put Poirier in a stretcher.
However, all his dejected spirits turned momentarily enthusiastic as he made his way back in the stretcher, almost appearing to thank the fans for their love and support, with a proud demeanour.
Several hours after the fight, McGregor took to Instagram, posting a picture of himself being stretchered off the stadium.
He then quoted Tony Montana from the movie Scarface, captioning the post:
“You need people like me.”
It was not the ending McGregor would have wanted, however there was a general consensus that he would have lost the fight eventually in the later rounds.
Poirier had actually begun dominating McGregor in the second half of the first round. ‘The Diamond’ pummeled McGregor with several elbows and ground strikes.
