The trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier is only 40 days away
McGregor will be out to exact revenge at UFC 264, when he takes on the number 1 ranked Poirier. The Irishman was knocked out for the first time in his career, against ‘The Diamond’ at UFC 257, levelling the scoreline in the rivalry.
After having breezed past Poirier at UFC 178, when the pair met for the first time, McGregor went into the fight at UFC 257, brimming with confidence, eventually underestimating Poirier.
Poirier had immensely matured since UFC 178, and hence was able to put on a clinical performance against McGregor.
With the trilogy fight coming up, both McGregor and Poirier have been actively training to get their hands raised on the 10th of July
McGregor recently shared an image on Instagram, looking shredded and jacked to the gills. The Irishman looked in phenomenal shape and seemed all set to go for the trilogy bout.
“6 weeks,” he captioned the post.
The winner of the fight, gets to face the lightweight champion Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title.
McGregor is currently in Dubai and has not been going through an active fight camp, primarily because of the birth of his son Rian.
Dustin Poirier has been going through some intense training sessions as well. HIs strength and conditioning coach Phil Daru posted a video of Poirier training like a warrior ahead of the trilogy bout.
Poirier could be seen showing some incredible speed and strength in the footage.
Daru captioned the post, “6 weeks out, #UFC264 @DustinPoirier, steady progressions.”
Coach Phil Daru was once part of the American Top Team, but was fired. He is now a coach at Vaughan Sports Academy.
