Conor McGregor says he will adopt the same approach vs Dustin Poirier as he did in his UFC debut
Conor McGregor made his debut in the UFC debut exactly 8 years ago today. He took on Marcus Brimage at UFC Sweden 2 on April 6th, 2013 and won by a 1st round knockout.
And after all these years, he has taken the time to reflect on his beginnings. ‘The Notorious One’ took to his Twitter account and shared the routine that he followed during those days.
He mentioned how his finish against Brimage was the 12th KO win of his career and that the next fight, against Poirier, would be his 12th main event of his career.
McGregor made sure to relate the numbers to his ‘Proper Twelve’ brand of whiskey.
The former UFC lightweight champion mentioned that he found out about his UFC debut 9 weeks before the fight.
He said it took a week to get into shape, and for the next two months, he lived in his sister’s apartment that was close to the gym.
McGregor mentioned that this hard work and commitment is how he became the UFC featherweight champion when he beat Chad Mendes at UFC 189.
He, of course, fought Dustin Poirier before that in 2014 at UFC 178. The duo competed at UFC 257 and are now all set to fight in a trilogy fight on July 10th.
Many people have questioned if the former UFC ‘champ champ’ has the same hunger as he did before the money and the fame.
But he clarified that he does. And that he would take this approach again for his comeback fight.
This is certainly good to hear as for years, we have not seen the Conor McGregor we have come to know over the years.
