Tony Ferguson was celebrating his birthday but Conor McGregor had a hilarious wish by making fun of his El Cucuy nickname

Tony Ferguson and Conor McGregor are two of the most outspoken stars in the UFC.

The pair might have never met in the Octagon but any fight featuring them is a huge talking point. Both are former title holders in the division but their recent form hasn’t been all that great.

Ferguson has lost his last two fights, and in devastating fashion too. McGregor fought Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 and was taken out.

However, the pair still remain big names for the UFC and the promotion was quick to wish Ferguson on his birthday.

Ferguson also carries the El Cucuy nickname, which is a Mexican name of a scary beast. However, McGregor doesn’t seem to be afraid of the now 37-year-old and called him cockeye, a slight at his nickname.

“Happy birthday el cockeye”

Ferguson vs McGregor would be quite the fight in the UFC. Both are known to be fierce competitors but this fantasy match-up is unlikely given the current circumstances.

However, Ferguson wasn’t taking this lying down as he hit back at McGregor. El Cucuy called him an “attention whore” and referred to himself as El Popeye.

Conor McGregor looking at a huge rematch for next fight

The Notorious One was handed a stinging defeat by Poirier but that hasn’t hurt his chances of a big fight next.

McGregor is keen on fighting Poirier for a third time and The Diamond is open to the same too. Dana White, the UFC president, also brought up how “obsessed” McGregor was with the rematch and he could make some adjustments to his tactics.

Poirier used a ton of leg kicks to hurt McGregor but the third fight could be a different. This could be for the Lightweight title but many, including Tyron Woodley, claim this is a huge money fight for the UFC too.

McGregor vs Poirier 3 will be a blockbuster and with the scores at 1-1, the winner will have the bragging rights for good.

Ferguson, for his part, is keen on returning to action. However, it is to be seen who he faces given his last two performances didn’t go as planned.
