Conor McGregor will take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in a trilogy fight
A rivalry almost 7 years in the making will learn its fate on the 10th of July, next weekend. Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier will be going head-to-head in the main event of UFC 264 to settle their rivalry once for all.
The scoreline currently reads 1-1 after Poirier exacted revenge at the recently concluded UFC 257. He knocked out the Irishman (McGregor’s first ever knockout loss) in only the second round of the fight.
At UFC 178, it was McGregor who emerged victorious. A young and bustling McGregor ripped apart Poirier in the first round of the fight, back in 2014.
McGregor who was quiet during the last outing – no trash-talks, no antics and no disrespect to the opponent. He was a totally different version when compared to his usual ‘Notorious’ self.
However, it looks like McGregor is back to being a ‘bad guy’. He took to Twitter to send an ominous warning to Poirier.
He wrote:
“3 fights against me for any man is an early grave. God bless.”
This is the first time in his MMA career, McGregor would be fighting in a trilogy fight. Prior to this, he had fought only Nate Diaz, and of course Poirier, twice.
Marvin Vettori shares his prediction for Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier
Top-ranked UFC middleweight Marvin Vettori shared his prediction for the upcoming trilogy fight between McGregor and Poirier.
In an interview with MMA Uncensored, Vettori revealed that Poirier would come up trumps once again.
He said:
“No, I won’t be at the event… I think Poirier (will) still do it again. I think so.”
Vettori recently lost to Israel Adesanya at UFC 263 in a middleweight title bout.
