Just weeks after topping the Forbes’ List of Highest-paid athletes, Conor McGregor has topped popular website Sportico’s list as well
McGregor’s on-court game might be fading, but his off-court exploits keep going from strength to strength every day.
The Irishman has become a business behemoth over the past few years and cash just keeps raining on him.
Just weeks after topping the Forbes‘ List of Highest-Paid athletes in the world, McGregor has topped yet another list, this time, of popular sporting website Sportico.
Sportico reports McGregor’s earnings for the year 2020 to be a whopping $208 million, with $180 million coming from endorsements alone. On-court McGregor is reported to have made $28 million, predominantly from his fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.
A large part of his endorsement earnings is attributed to the sale of his Whiskey Brand – Proper No.12 to Proximo Spirits. The deal is reported to be worth around $150 million.
McGregor beat the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and LeBron James. Messi stood second in the list, hard earnings of $126 million, a mind-boggling $82 million lesser than McGregor.
There has been a lot of talk about McGregor’s game dipping due to the large inflow of money in his life.
Despite showing the hunger to train and continue chasing greatness in the sport, his performances inside the Octagon have been bang average.
Now, he is set to face Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, a fight which will see the winner get the title shot against the lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
Come the 10th of July, McGregor will be looking forward to proving his doubters and critics wrong.
