Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp were down globally for more than 6 hours. A major power outage was reported as the reason for the same.

Since Instagram and Whatsapp are owned by Facebook, they are designed on a shared infrastructure, meaning a problem in one could possibly affect the rest as well.

Facebook employees were shut out as well, they were locked out of their own systems.

FB’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg is estimated to have lost a whopping $7 billion due to the social media outage

All social media users flocked to Twitter, and so did the official Twitter handles of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

The social media giant owned by Jack Dorsey which is usually buzzing was a cacophony of Twitterati expressing their views on the shutdown.
