Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor exchange comments on social media soon after trilogy fight gets a date
Conor McGregor revealed the date of his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier. The titanic encounter is scheduled to take place on July 10th later this year.
And not long after that, the Irishman celebrated 8 years since his UFC debut against Marcus Brimage in April 2013.
For that, McGregor posted a series of tweets where he discussed his work ethic before his UFC Sweden 2 fight.
He mentioned how Poirier would later become his 12th first-round KO in the sport and how he was going to bring back his hunger and motivation for the trilogy fight.
The Irish lightweight fighter mentioned the hard work behind becoming the UFC featherweight champion and how he intends to tap into that version of Conor McGregor again.
‘The Diamond’ had a succinct reply to McGregor’s paragraphs as he tweeted, “I never slack, I’ll meet you in the middle of the octagon July 10th.”
And of course Conor was going to come up with a reply of his own to those comments. He mentioned that he is up for being in the middle from minute 1 and will be ready for Poirier’s tactics this time.
The American famously wore down McGregor with his calf kicks last time out before securing a round 2 TKO win when the former UFC ‘champ champ’s’ legs gave in.
The verbal restraint practised here by both is quite odd to see considering they are both pretty good trash talkers. This is one fight that probably does not need that type of hype anyway.
Both of them seem to have a respect for each other’s crafts. But don’t expect them to see them be this nice to each other once the bell rings.
