Dana White shared some incredible news regarding Khabib Nurmagomedov and then Ariel Helwani opened up on the possible date for Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3

The UFC Lightweight division got a huge push after Dana White after a major announcement.

White confirmed that Khabib Nurmagomedov had finally retired and the UFC president shared an emotional post as well.

The UFC president had tried his level best to get Khabib back after the win over Justin Gaethje. However, all of his efforts failed and Khabib finishes his career at 29-0. The Russian will go down as one of the greatest ever but there still is a mystery to solve.

Khabib was the UFC Lightweight champion and this retirement confirmation means a new champion has to be crowned.

Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor 3 was a fight that some expected would be for the title but White threw a curve ball at this too.

White confirmed that Michael Chandler vs Charles Oliveira would be for the vacant Lightweight belt at UFC 262.

Chandler made a winning debut to his UFC career by beating Dan Hooker while Oliveira has been on a seven-fight win streak.

However, that still left McGregor and Poirier 3 in the dark. Ariel Helwani, from ESPN, shed light on that issue and also when the pair could fight.

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 3 possible date in 2021

Helwani tweeted that the fight between Poirier and McGregor could take place in on July 10. There were hopes to see the pair fight at UFC 262 on May 15 but the UFC couldn’t fix that fight.

“There was once a hope McGregor-Poirier 3 fight would get done for May 15 but it’s taken longer than hoped/expected so they moved on from that a while ago, sources say. Won’t happen on June 12 (Figueiredo-Moreno on that card), so latest hope is the July 10 card. We’ll see.”

This could be one reason why the fight for the belt was also taken away from Poirier and McGregor. The UFC might not have wanted to keep a belt vacant for a few more months, but Chandler vs Oliveira will be exciting.

Poirier vs McGregor 3 will also be something special and it will be interesting to see when the final date for this clash is confirmed.
