Chael Sonnen spoke about Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal being the biggest UFC fight

UFC legend Chael Sonnen believes that Conor McGregor vs Jorge Masvidal is the biggest if Georges St-Pierre isn’t brought back.

St-Pierre has been linked with a return in recent months. Khabib Nurmagomedov is the one fighter that could clash against the legend GSP, however, there are several terms and conditions for this to happen.

Sonnen was speaking on his MMA show, and highlighted how big of a draw McGregor is. The UFC legend claimed that McGregor has been open to another fight but wasn’t happy that the Irishman hasn’t highlighted an opponent yet:

“Conor hasn’t done a fantastic job of filling in the blank. Who would you like to have matched up with Conor?”

Sonnen claimed that Rafael Dos Anjos is one fight that could work against McGregor. That fight at UFC 196 was cancelled, and revisiting the same would be amazing.

However, Sonnen brought in Masvidal into the mix and had some big hopes for the clash:

“Masvidal vs Conor, arguably, has to be the biggest match in the entire sport could put on right now with the absence of Georges St-Pierre.”

Sonnen added that there was something special between Masvidal and McGregor and suggested he was trying to sell a Ferrari.

Narrow down the target

McGregor has said he will fight anyone and was open to different divisions. However, Sonnen claimed that McGregor has to narrow down his rival, and he had a lot of options too.

Nate Diaz is one more option while the Irishman could also fight for the BMF title against Masvidal, something that Sonnen has advocated in the past.

GSP would be a huge draw for the UFC if he does return. However, the lack of tickets at the moment would hurt the UFC financially.

McGregor can sell out any stadium too, and it will be interesting to see when the Irishman fights next. Masvidal was to fight Kamaru Usman for the Welterweight title but that got broken off for some reason.

Gamebred has also hit out at the UFC over pay issues, but a clash against McGregor could solve those problems.
