Conor McGregor had his ankled snapped in the very first round of his main event fight against Dustin Poirier
Not the ending fight fans expected. McGregor vs Poirier 3 ended in a jiffy. But there was more to it, as it didn’t end in a satisfying way.
Just when the first round was nearing its completion, McGregor had his left ankle snapped while landing awkwardly on the canvas. ‘The Irishman’ fell to the floor and was inspected by the Octagon doc and the officials.
After a quick thorough inspection, he was deemed unfit to continue. The fight was awarded to Dustin Poirier via. TKO due to a doctor stoppage.
Just before the result was made official, a raging McGregor could be seen shouting doctor stoppage umpteen times, to make sure that he is given a loss due to doctor stoppage.
A fuming McGregor can be seen exclaiming:
“Doctor stoppage! Doctor stoppage! Doctor stoppage! Tell them, doctor stoppage! That’s a doctor stoppage!”
Dana White provides surgery update following Conor McGregor’s ankle break
UFC President Dana White provided the much-needed update following McGregor’s nasty injury.
The bossman explained at the post-fight presser that McGregor would undergo surgery the next day, since he had suffered a lower tibia fracture.
White, however, did not write off a rematch between the two. Given the bad blood that has boiled over between the two, a rematch in the future might be very well on the cards.
But for now, Poirier’s next assignment would be the title fight against Charles Oliveira. ‘The Diamond’ is just one step away from shining bright.
