Justin Gaethje has become more popular after defeating Tony Ferguson for the interim Lightweight title
Cory Sandhagen sounded confident ahead of his UFC 250 fight against Aljamain Sterling. Sandhagen has lost just one fight in his MMA career and is looking to claim the vacant Bantamweight belt.
Henry Cejudo, the champion, decided to retire from the UFC recently and Sandhagen has his sights on that.
The 28-year-old is also part of the Elevation Fight Team and some of his teammates have been in action recently too.
Ariel Helwani asked about the participation of Justin Gaethje. The interim Lightweight champion has often been seen with this team, and Helwani wanted Sandhagen to answer if Gaethje is part of the team or not:
“He is [member of the team], so, Gaethje uses a different wrestling coach than we all use and he uses Trevor Wittman as his striking coach.
“You’d have to ask Wittman what his title would be, if he’s an Elevation coach or not. I know Trevor does his own thing. I mean Gaethje is at all the sparring sessions I go to, and Trevor is there with him.
“Gaethje helping out the guys on our team, he is doing that for us and we are doing that for him. Although he is kinda there two or three days a week for the sparring session, I would still consider him a member of the team but he uses some different coaches.”
The 28-year-old also went on to say that Cejudo liked the attention he gets but didn’t enjoy Triple C’s gimmick.
Sandhagen believed that Cejudo wouldn’t return to the UFC unless he wasn’t making money outside of it. Currently, Cejudo is featuring on AEW and has spoken about facing off against a boxer too.
Sandhagen is one of the top stars in the division. He has just one loss to his name in his MMA career and would be keen on extending his seven-fight win streak after UFC 250.
