Former UFC interim welterweight champion Colby Covington was visibly hyped to see commentator Joe Rogan back at the ceremonial weigh-ins at UFC 272
Colby Covington has one of the biggest fights of his career, against Jorge Masvidal, coming up on Saturday night. However, the 34-year-old still took some time out to welcome Joe Rogan back to the UFC.
Rogan had previously missed the UFC 271 event after grabbing headlines for all the wrong reasons. The UFC commentator was in the firing line after COVID-19 vaccine comments made by guests on his Spotify podcast. He was accused of spreading misinformation about the vaccine as well.
The veteran UFC host was under pressure to cancel his show but issued an apology to his followers. Now, with the podcast back on track, Rogan returned on stage at the UFC 271 ceremonial weigh-in and Covington was quite glad.
After interviewing Covington’s opponent Jorge Masvidal at the weigh-ins on Friday, Joe Rogan made his way towards ‘Chaos’. While the crowd initially booed Covington at first, they quickly started cheering for him when he welcomed back Joe Rogan.
Rogan, as he does usually before a fight, asked Covington his feelings on fighting his former best friend Jorge Masvidal. However, Covington quickly asked the crowd to welcome Rogan back to the industry.
Covington also slammed those who urged Rogan to cancel his show as he said, “Woah! Before we start talking about the future, let’s talk about the present. It’s so great to have you back Joe Rogan. We love you at the UFC. We missed you. F*** cancel culture!“
The American fighter then spoke about his bout with Masvidal and explained. “Tonight is sweet Judas’ last supper. I’m sending Jorge to the electric chair. I’m gonna flip the switch and fry him and electrify the T-Mobile Arena like it’s never been done before.”
Covington and Masvidal will square off on Saturday night in the main event at UFC 272.
