Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor are set to faceoff in a trilogy bout at UFC 264 on the 10th of July, this year
Poirier and McGregor ran their UFC 178, September 2014 fight back after almost seven years. The pair met in the main event of UFC 257 in Fight Island, earlier this year on the 24th of January.
Poirier exacted revenge for his UFC 178 loss, knocking ‘The Irishman’ out in only the second round of the fight. This was the first time McGregor was knocked out in his professional MMA career.
The pair immediately agreed on a trilogy bout. And, after a minor blip, the fight was made official for July 10, at UFC 264, in front of a full house in Vegas.
Elsewhere, veteran UFC featherweight Cub Swanson who takes on Giga Chikadze tomorrow at UFC Vegas 25, weighed in on the trilogy bout. Speaking to Helen Yee, Swanson revealed that McGregor would be more dangerous this time around.
However, Swanson said he was still rooting for Poirier and also marvelled at the human being he is.
Swanson told Helen Yee:
“I’m rooting for him. Conor is definitely make some adjustments and come back. I’m sure we’ll see a different version of him which is gonna be dangerous. But, I would really love to see Dustin win again. I love who he is as a person, with all his charity work and how he carries himself. I’m super proud of that guy too. To see him doing well, it’s inspiring.”
Cub Swanson is 37 years old, and is still going strong. Just when it looked like his career was waning – Between 2017 and 2019 he suffered 4 back-to-back losses; he picked himself up, and came back with a bang.
Following 2 back-to-back victories against Kron Gracie and Daniel Pineda, Swanson looks to be back on track.
Now, in his path stands, a surging Giga Chikadze, the number 14 ranked featherweight.
And, ahead of the fight against Chikadze, Swanson told Helen Yee that he would love to keep fighting as long as it is fun for him, while requesting the fans to keep supporting him.
