Damir Ismagulov failed to make weight at the recently concluded UFC 267 weigh in and had his fight against Magomed Mustafaev cancelled
The UFC 267 weigh ins just concluded and there was some drama involved.
Damir Ismagulov who was set to take on Magomed Mustafaev missed weight by a whopping 7.5 lbs.
The Russian came in at 163.5 lbs, much much more than the stipulated 156 lbs limit for the lightweight division.
As a result the fight against Mustafaev was cancelled. The fight was set to take place in the preliminary card.
It is not clear as to how the UFC will be proceeding with Mustafaev – compensation or rebook a fight.
It is worth noting that Mustafaev hasn’t competed since February 2020. He suffered a narrow split decision loss at UFC Fight Night: Hooker vs Felder that night.
Ismagulov, on the other hand, last beat Rafael Alves at UFC Fight Night: Font vs Garbrandt in May 2021.
Khamzat Chimaev who is making a return to the Octagon after more than 13 months, struggled at the weigh ins.
He came in 0.5 lbs heavier and had to weigh in an hour later to make weight successfully.
There was also more controversy as many pointed out Chimaev holding the towel to manipulate the scales.
Chimaev will be taking on Li Jingliang in a welterweight bout in the main card.
