Dan Hooker faces Dustin Poirier in his next UFC clash at the weekend
New Zealand UFC Lightweight star Dan Hooker was on Submission Radio ahead of his huge clash against Dustin Poirier.
The two meet in the main event and it should be an incredible clash. Hooker spoke on several topics during his 30-minute long interview and was asked some interesting questions too.
The Kiwi star was asked about his chances of lifting the title. However, he was also questioned on who is the toughest opponent in the division.
The rivals named included Tony Ferguson, Conor McGregor, interim champion Justin Gaethje and current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Without missing a beat, Hooker named the champion and gave his reasons too:
“Khabib, Khabib. Of course, just because he is undefeated. Just because its a storybook ending to be the guy to blemish the record of one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the world.
“That’s the biggest challenge, the one that excites me the most.”
Khabib defeated Poirier to win the undisputed UFC title, and the Russian has been excellent since making his debut in the UFC.
Khabib is 28-0 in his MMA career and has beaten some top stars such as Al Iaquinta, McGregor and Rafael dos Anjos.
The Russian and Gaethje are to meet soon for the undisputed title, and Hooker could be waiting in the wings for a shot at the title.
He must first defeat Poirier, who is also one of the best in the division. Hooker also claimed that his Poirier fight is 50-50 and believed either of them could knock the other out.
Hooker comes into this fight with a 20-8 record while Poirier sits on 25 wins and six losses. Poirier hasn’t fought since losing his title clash against Khabib and it will be interesting to see how he does against Hooker.
