Colby Covington defeated Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272
Colby Covington picked up a dominant win over bitter rival Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. Chaos might not have been the overwhelming favourite to get the win, however, the American certainly put on a show against Masvidal.
Covington dominated from the first bell and snuffed Masvidal with his wrestling. There were a few big blows in the fight, but the bout went to the final bell. In the end, it was Covington who deserved the win thanks to his impressive wrestling.
Dana White opened up regarding Covington’s future and possible title shot. Chaos has lost to the Welterweight Champion, Kamaru Usman, twice, and normally this would mean that title shots are out of the question.
However, White wasn’t turning down Covington just yet. The UFC president claimed that Covington could get a shot if he keeps on winning.
Covington has come the closest to being a real problem for Usman in his two bouts. No one else has come close to even touching The Nigerian Nightmare, and it will be interesting to see if there is a trilogy between the two.
While Covington vs Usman 3 would be a great bout, it seems Chaos has other plans in mind. He has called out former Lightweight Interim Champion Dustin Poirier in the past, and did so after his win at UFC 272.
In typical Covington style, Chaos even took a shot at Poirier’s family and it is to be seen if the UFC sets this up.
Covington vs Poirier would be another big clash, given how much trash talk has been done from at least one side.
Love him or hate him, Covington proved he is a great wrestler and possibly one of the best in the UFC on Saturday.
His persona might not be something that everyone can get behind, but Covington backs up his talk in the Octagon.
