Dana White has great news as Conor McGregor wants Dustin Poirier trilogy soon

Conor McGregor is not wasting time in asking for a trilogy with Dustin Poirier

UFC 259 might be on the horizon but there is always going to be news about two or three fighters.

Islam Makhachev is fighting against Drew Dober but Dana White has been asked about Khabib Nurmagomedov and his possible return.

The UFC president is again trying to get the Russian out of retirement and it is to be seen what happens with that Lightweight division.

The two other stars in the news are Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor. McGregor lost to Poirier in their last meeting at UFC 257 but both have spoken about wanting a third clash.

The score is 1-1 between the two and White was again asked about this running rivalry as well but not during the UFC 259 press conference.

White was on the Jim Rome show and confirmed that McGregor was keen on a match soon. However, White reiterated that he wants to set this up in the summer which would be great news for UFC fans (h/t MMA Junkie):

“Conor’s ready to roll,” White said. “Conor wants to fight again. He wants the rematch with Dustin Poirier, and he wants it as soon as possible. We’re working on it. Hopefully this summer”

The president had also stated right after McGregor’s loss that the Irishman was obsessed with a rematch.

It is to be seen when the fight is confirmed but there is no doubt that the UFC is keen to set it up sooner rather than later.

Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy will be a different fight

One major talking point from the UFC 257 fight was Poirier’s use of leg kicks. That hurt McGregor a lot and led to his loss.

The third fight is expected to be much different as McGregor has confirmed that he will “cheque” the kicks.

Further, Poirier also joked that he might be using headbutts to hurt McGregor. However, that is an illegal move in the UFC.

The third clash should be interesting to see in terms of what tactics are deployed. The leg kick might not be as big as it was at UFC 257 and the two stars are already working hard to get the better of their opponent.
