Jon Jones is yet to make his heavyweight debut since moving up from LHW, a long time back
Jones is the hottest topic of discussion in the heavyweight division. The light-heavyweight GOAT hasn’t made his debut in the division containing the strongest men, ever since moving to the same in August 2020.
After beating Dominick Reyes at UFC 247, ‘Bones’ relinquished his light-heavyweight title and expressed his desire to move to the HW division.
He did so as desired, and after almost 7 months of no activity, a bout with newly-crowned heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou loomed largely.
But a payment dispute with UFC President Dana White has put his fight against ‘The Predator’, in doubt, and it looks like the fight might be handed to number 2 ranked heavyweight contender Derrick Lewis.
White addressed this in a recent interview and claimed that Jones taking on UFC Heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic, who recently lost to Francis Ngannou, might make sense.
After his loss to Ngannou at UFC 260, Miocic has been bulking up and he looks raring to go. He even hinted that he might at a massive 250lbs hereafter.
White said, speaking of Stipe, and an eventual fight with Jones:
“He is the heavyweight GOAT. The guy has put in the work and done all the things you need to do to be the heavyweight GOAT. He is [the hw GOAT], that is a fact…I like that he is fired up and wants to fight again…But, listen we could give you Jon [Jones] and Stipe too.”
Dana White speaks about his recent relationship with Jon Jones
White and Jones have not been on good terms of late. They have been having a go at each other on social media, and White opened up about Jones in the same interview with Okamoto.
White divulged that he hasn’t talked to Jones of late, but claimed that UFC’s lawyer Hunter Campbell and Jones have a great relationship.
He then assured that if Jones was compliant they would get a fight ready for him anytime.
White told Okamoto
“I haven’t [talked to Jones]. But, Hunter [Campbell] has a great relationship with Jon. So, I know those two have been talking…Listen, Jon is one of the best ever to do it. If he wants to fight, we’ll get a fight done for him…But he’s gotta be the one to do it.”
