UFC President Dana White has some words of wisdom for Paddy Pimblett, the budding new talent from the UK
Dana White has seen his share of exciting young prospects over the years, and has had his fair share of hype trains derailed. He understands the brutal nature of the sport better than anyone and commiserates that even though talking can get you fights, it cannot win them for you.
Probably the biggest name walking into UFC London is Paddy Pimblett, who blitzed the UFC with a furious first-round TKO of Luigi Vendramini on his debut. Speaking about the English lad to BT Sport, White said that he’s got a good influence flair, and can do big things inside the company. But he needs to keep winning fights.
White said, “He’s a fun guy. Smack talk’s fun. You’ve got to win. Everybody keeps talking about the excitement of the walkouts and all this stuff. You’ve got win fights. Believe me, he comes in and has an incredible walkout and the crowd goes crazy and he wins? Awesome.”
UFC London will feature the return of the crowd favorite Paddy Pimblett, who took the MMA world by storm in his debut. Ahead of the fight Paddy sat down with the media to discuss his upcoming bout against Rodrigo Vargas and even detailed his brawl encounter with Ilia Topuria.
Pimblett walks around heavy at 195 lbs. when he’s not fighting, and he was asked about his weight-cutting process ahead of his fight. The response was frightening when Paddy said,
” I used to absolutely kill myself to make 145.. I was 0.2 kilos [0.44 pounds] away from acute kidney failure, and one kilo [2.2 pounds] of water weight away from dying”
This is to a fault alarming to think about the pain these fighters go through while cutting weight, instead of fighting in their natural weight class.
