Rumors of Jon Jones being released from the promotion were rife after UFC lightweight Luis Pena was shown the door
Luis Pena was released from the UFC after he was arrested for the second time on charges of battery and domestic violence.
He had attacked his partner with a closed fist last Saturday and had continued doing so until another woman intervened.
Pena had dealt with the other woman the same way as well. The 28-year old was released on a bond of $6000.
The UFC had had enough, and Pena was eventually released from the promotion.
Dana White addresses Jon Jones being released
A couple of weeks ago, a very similar incident rocked the UFC. It was a much bigger name – Jon Jones.
The UFC heavyweight was arrested by the Las Vegas Police department under the same charges Pena was arrested.
‘Bones’ had assaulted his fiancee Jessie Moses in a drunken state, in the presence of their children.
He was released after posting bail. Jones is scheduled to appear in a Las Vegas court on the 26th of October.
Jones was heavily criticized for his actions. More recently, UFC President Dana White was asked about the rumors surrounding the release of Jones, after Pena was released for doing the same thing.
White didn’t write off a Jones release as he stated that it “could happen to anybody.”
Here is what he had to say (Tweet courtesy – MMA reporter Amy Kaplan of Fansided):
“Dana says re: Jon Jones, “something like that could happen to anybody” in terms of a release #DWCS.”
