Dana White had the following to say on being asked about Nate Diaz left with just one fight in his UFC contract
Nate Diaz has been a part of the UFC for almost 15 years. ‘The Stockton Slugger’ as he is known might have passed his prime, but still comes up with the goods.
A testament to that is his recent fight against Leon Edwards at UFC 263. Having been away from the Octagon for almost 2 years, Diaz almost turned the fight around in the very last minute of the 25-minute war, after being dominated for the entirety of the fight.
Now, he just has one fight left in his UFC contract. He might choose to renew it or probably test free agency.
‘The West Coast Gangster’ had also expressed his desire to fight top fighters like Vicente Luque and Tony Ferguson.
In a recent interview with TSN, UFC President Dana White spoke about Diaz’s future in the promotion.
Saying that it was up to Diaz to decide, White added that one should start looking for other options in case they begin doubting themselves.
White was quoted as saying:
“That’s a decision he needs to make. Listen, for a lot of these guys, there’s no secret about it. If you believe that you are one of the best in the world and you believe you can win a world title here, or hang with the top five, then this is where you should be. The minute that you start doubting that is the case, you’ve got to start looking at other options.” [via MMA Fighting]
While Nate Diaz has been teasing a fight against Vicente Luque and Tony Ferguson, a fight against Conor McGregor is also a possibility.
The pair had one of the fiercest rivalries in modern MMA history, back in 2016.
With the scoreline currently hanging at 1-1, a trilogy bout between the two very much makes sense.
