Dana White was asked about who his favourite UFC fighter from 2020 was and the boss had two names
UFC president Dana White was caught up by The Schmo to round off 2020. The boss provided updates on several big fights such as Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier and Michael Chandler vs Dan Hooker.
He also spoke about Zhang Weili’s future opponent and also that Jon Jones would be back in action after Francis Ngannou takes on Stipe Miocic.
2021 seems to be packed with a ton of quality clashes but White was asked about his most impressive fighter from 2020.
While the 2020 UFC season was hit hard by Covid-19, some stars really put their mark on the promotion.
White had a couple of names on his mind and it would be tough to argue against his picks:
“It’s tough. You know everybody knows I love Khamzat [Chimaev].
“What he did in 2020 was unbelievable. I love Kevin Holland. 5-0 in 2020, you know, off the top of my head right now, those are the two.”
Chimaev and Holland rule the roost
While Holland had more wins than Khamzat Chimaev in 2020, the Swede deserved to be on the list.
Khamzat came as a nobody in the UFC and won all his three fights in exceptional fashion. He also accepted fights on short notice and is one of the fastest rising stars in the promotion.
Holland, for his part, went a crazy 5-0 and still wants to fight at the start of 2020. Most UFC stars don’t even have three fights in a year but taking five, in a Covid-19 affected calendar, needs some serious mental and physical training.
Winning all five fights is another incredible feat from Holland, and it will be interesting to see how the pair do when 2021 kicks in.
Khamzat was to fight Leon Edwards. However, the Swede pulled out of the event due to an injury of sorts and as he was still recovering from an earlier case of the Coronavirus.
