Reports have suggested that Francis Ngannou is out of a contract after UFC 270
Dana White shared some positive news regarding the future of Francis Ngannou.
Ngannou is the current UFC Heavyweight Champion. However, The Predator is out of a contract at the end of UFC 270.
That is a title unification bout as Ngannou defends his title against the interim Heavyweight Champion Ciryl Gane.
There has been a lot of back and forth between Ngannou and Gane. However, another big story has been regarding the future of the champion.
Ngannou’s agent, Marquel Martin, has often spoken about how undervalued his client is and even the champ has brought up the same.
Losing Ngannou would be a huge blow to the UFC, but White provided a positive update while speaking on The Fight with Teddy Atlas (h/t BJ Penn):
“Francis and I bumped into each other the other night at dinner. We had a good talk. And he’s not out of contract if he wins that fight [vs. Gane]. I think he’s got one more fight with us after that… I think that Francis and I had a good conversation.”
Francis Ngannou misguided by parties
White also took a bit of a shot at Ngannou’s team and suggested that the champion had been advised incorrectly.
“I think Francis has been misguided, too, by some people that aren’t very bright. That doesn’t help either; when you’ve got some people behind you that have no f*cking clue what they’re talking about. It doesn’t help the situation.”
It will be interesting to see what is next for Ngannou after UFC 270. Gane has looked incredible since bursting into the MMA scene and is undefeated in his career.
Bon Gamin, however, faces the toughest test of his fledgling MMA career, and there is a chance Ngannou comes out on top.
The UFC would be in a problem if one of their biggest names leaves just after keeping the title.
Ngannou will be defending his title for the first time at UFC 270, and he does need to be a tad careful of the threat possessed by Bon Gamin.
