Dana White puts Yair Rodriguez’s UFC future up in the air with cryptic message

Yair Rodriguez was expected to be in action in August but Dana White threw his future in the air after a recent press conference

Top UFC Featherweight Yair Rodriguez hasn’t fought since October 2019 and Dana White has thrown the future of the Mexican up in the air.

Rodriguez was to fight Zabit Magomedsharipov at UFC Fight Night 175. However, the 28-year-old pulled out of the fight citing an injury.

No news had been provided on Rodriguez but White was asked about the Mexican by a reporter after some training images made it to social media.

White spoke to an assistant off camera and didn’t know if he had opened up on Rodriguez. However, the UFC president didn’t have great news with respect to the Mexican’s next fight:

“I don’t think he’s going to fight soon.

“We didn’t announce it, I don’t know why we didn’t but yeah, I don’t know what the deal is.

White then shared more confusing statements by claiming that he and the UFC were not to know what was going on and they would let people know once things were clear:

“It’s none of my business what’s going on there. So when it comes out, it comes out. It’s none of our business, none of the UFC’s business. When they figure it out they’ll let us know.”

Rodriguez vs White

This isn’t the first time White and Rodriguez have been at loggerheads. A couple of years back, Rodriguez was released by the UFC after he refused too many fights.

However, three weeks after his release in 2018, the two teams worked out their differences and Rodriguez was back on the roster.

The 28-year-old currently has an MMA record of 13 wins, two losses and one no contests. Rodriguez defeated Jeremy Stephens in his last fight in 2019.

It will be interesting to see what else is up with Rodriguez but things don’t look good for him at the moment.
