In a statement released on Twitter, Jones mentioned that with Schaefer’s immense experience in making massive Pay-Per-View events, he would reach great heights in the sport. Jones sounded pretty confident about landing big opportunities.

A part of the statement read:

“His knowledge and experience of the Pay Per View industry and combat sports are second to none. I am excited to embark on his next chapter of my career as I continue to cement my place in history as one of the greats with Richard as my advisor. I can’t wait to give my fans and the sport the fights they want to see.”

UFC President Dana White reacted to Jones’ announcement of retaining Schaefer. Heaping praise on the former Golden Boy CEO, White assured that they would get “something done” if possible.

White said, as reported by Brett Okamoto of ESPN:

““I like Richard, I’ve known Richard for a long time and obviously, he built Golden Boy. He built that company. He knows what he’s doing, he’s a smart guy. I like and respect him and if we can get something done we will.”

Jones is right now facing uncertainty over his future in the heavyweight division. His fight against Francis Ngannou fell through after the pay dispute with Dana White, and a fight against Stipe Miocic was turned down by Jones himself.

Cris Cyborg tweets in support of Jon Jones

Bellator Women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg tweeted in support of Jon Jones, in reply to his advisor retention tweet.

Cyborg stressed the fact that the Muhammad Ali Act should be made available for the sport of MMA as well. The act is currently only applicable to boxers, and is meant to protect the welfare and interests of the boxers.

Cyborg tweeted:

“We need the Muhammad Ali Act to protect fighters in mixed martial arts like it does in boxing. Unfortunately long term contracts are killing fighters opportunities to make money.”

It is worth noting that Cyborg recently defender her featherweight title against Leslie Smith at Bellator 259. She won the fight via. TKO in the fifth round, with just 9 seconds left on the clock.
