UFC president Dana White does not know if any UFC stars have tested positive for the coronavirus
Dana White was speaking to TSN about the recent coronavirus outbreak and how it has affected the UFC.
The president claimed that he was unsure when fights would restart given the current situation. However, he was hopeful of things improving in the coming weeks.
White has postponed the next three events but UFC 249 is the target for his promotion to return. That could be a problem now, as White couldn’t tell when he could host a fight.
He was then asked if any of his fighters had tested positive for the virus, but White was not in the know:
“I don’t know anybody other than famous people that are coming out and saying that they have it.
“I don’t know anybody.”
Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert are two of the biggest sportspeople to have been affected by the virus. The pair play in the NBA and the league has suspended its operations for now.
Similarly, movie stars such as Tom Hanks and Idris Elba have also tested positive for the coronavirus, and they are recovering well.
White adamant to ensure other events take place
The UFC president was asked what would happen to the events that have been scrapped for now.
White claimed that he wanted to hold the events later in the year and was hopeful of taking up the UFC 249 event too.
The president added that he is open to helping anyone out who is struggling with the virus, be it staff or stars and hopefully, no fighters are affected by the virus.
Most sports leagues have also suspended operations at the moment, and there is no idea when things will resume again.
The health and safety of people has to be the main priority, and that has to be dealt with first before any events take place.
