UFC President Dana White drops a major hint at a possibility of Nick Diaz returning to the UFC.
A new look Nick Diaz was present at the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena, as he and the rest of the fans witnessed Kamaru Usman demolish Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 261.
The 37-year old Diaz, last fought in the UFC, more than 6 years ago against Anderson Silva. The match was originally a unanimous decision win for Silva, but it was later turned to a no-contest after both the fighters tested positive for banned substances.
Diaz was later suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for 5, which was later reduced to 18 months, and Diaz was eligible to compete in August 2016. After an extended hiatus, his manager revealed in September 2020 that Diaz would like to compete again.
And, ‘The West Coast Gangster’ has been putting in the hard yards as well, as he looks in phenomenal shape.
In the wake of this, UFC President Dana White confirmed that Diaz has expressed his desire to fight and that he would be meeting with him after the UFC 261 post-fight press conference.
If you think the last time Nick Diaz fought was ages ago, the last time he won a fight would surprise you even more. The ‘elder Diaz’ hasn’t won a fight in almost 10 years.
The last time he won a fight, was against UFC Hall of Famer B.J Penn in October 2011, way back at UFC 137.
However, Diaz appeared just thrice after that. He took on Carlos Condit at UFC 143, and lost via. unanimous decision. The Stockton man, then started a heated rivalry with Georges St-Pierre and took him on at UFC 158, going down once again via. unanimous decision.
After a two year hiatus, he then fought Anderson Silva, which has been his last fight, till date.
