Nick Diaz had teased a return to MMA but Dana White wasn’t expecting to see the American in the UFC
Dana White was caught up by The Schmo to round off a testing 2020. The Coronavirus pandemic led to several fights being called off or being rescheduled.
The pandemic did allow some stars to get back to training and we have seen the likes of Anthony Johnson make a return to MMA. Rumble decided to snub the UFC and join Bellator and another star seems to be thinking of making a return.
Nick Diaz last fought in the UFC back in 2015 and this was his return to the promotion. The American had not fought since and despite being a champion in other promotions, hints were provided that the 37-year-old wanted a UFC comeback.
He had been posting pictures training with Nate Diaz and this had a lot of people talking. However, White has rubbished such claims and doesn’t believe Nick was ready for the UFC.
“Everything that I see from Nick Diaz doesn’t look like Nick Diaz wants to or is ready to compete in this sport.
“Even like Jon Jones, as good as Jon Jones is, you have to be 100% mentally, physically and emotionally ready to train, be ready for this fight and I just don’t think anybody should want to see Nick Diaz fight.”
White also brought up all that Diaz had achieved thanks to the fight game. The UFC president added that he didn’t want to see Diaz back in the fight game:
“Nick Diaz has been in a lot of wars, has accomplished a lot of great things in his career, has made a lot of money.
“He is super famous, he’s gotten everything you could hope to get out of fighting, I just don’t know why.
“When I see his Instagram, I don’t know why he wants to come back.”
Diaz is still a big name but White makes a lot of sense with his thoughts on this. The UFC doesn’t need more ageing stars and they also let go of veterans such as Anderson Silva and Yoel Romero, and it is unlikely they will be keen on re-signing Nick Diaz too.
