Dan Ige shares a cooking story about Khabib Nurmagomedov from Conor McGregor fight week
Khabib Nurmagomedov is arguably the greatest lightweight in the history of MMA. But the reigning champion at 155 lbs. is also a pretty good chef; or so he would want us to believe.
Dan Ige was talking to Marc Raimondi of ESPN MMA earlier this week. And ‘Dynamite Dan’ shared a story of when ‘The Eagle’ wanted to make him eggs for breakfast.
Ige (15-3-0) competes in the featherweight division of the UFC and he recalled how he was offered the ‘Eagle Omelette’ by Khabib.
That would not sound too extraordinary until you’d know that this happened during the last few days leading up to the fight against Conor McGregor.
“I think it was before the Conor fight. I wanna say we’re in Las Vegas. It’s Wednesday or Thursday, he’s about to cut his last however many pounds he had to cut. And dude made me an omelette. Like, he made me an omelette. I was like, I didn’t want it… He’s like ‘brother, let me make you eggs, Eagle eggs’. And I’m like ‘bro you’re fighting, I’m okay’. He’s like, ‘no brother, please let me cook you eggs’, and he made his little omelette there, and it was actually pretty good!”
So when Khabib was dehydrated and in the last few days of probably his biggest of his career, he was all calm and offered to cook breakfast for his friend.
This, according to Ige, showed a lot about the Russian star’s character.
“Just shows you. Like, the humble kid he is. And like, here he is about to , the biggest of his life, about to fight Conor McGregor. Sold out, one of the biggest pay-per-views ever. And, here he is, making, on his weight-cut day, on his moment, on his week, would not let me refuse eggs. Crazy.”
The Eagle, of course, went on to beat ‘Notorious One’ at UFC 229 and went on to defend his UFC lightweight belt for the first time. And as we know, he has now retired unbeaten in the sport.
