Georges St-Pierre is one of the greatest MMA artists of all time
Daniel Cormier believes Georges St-Pierre could return for one fight and get the better of some of the top men in the UFC.
GSP, as St-Pierre is called, is a former Welterweight and Middleweight champion in the UFC. The 39-year-old is also to be included into the UFC Hall of Fame in 2020.
GSP retired from MMA in 2019, but Cormier claimed the Canadian could defeat Israel Adesanya or Kamaru Usman.
Adesanya and Usman are champions in their respective divisions. However, Cormier was speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show and highlighted the class of GSP.
The pair were speaking about how Tyron Woodley was destroyed by Gilbert Burns. While Helwani brought up Woodley’s age, Cormier defended the former champion and spoke about GSP’s class:
“The best year of my career was when I was 39. He [Woodley] can still rebuild himself.
“Here is the issue with us as we get older. You can go out and fight a guy on one night and win a belt, I believe.
“So if Georges came back and he was right away in a title fight, I believe Georges, for one night, could put a fight together and beat Usman or Israel Adesanya or one of those guys.”
DC, however, claimed that going through a ton of guys and making a run wasn’t easy at this stage of his career.
“To go through all those guys and build a run back to a title fight, for me too, it would be difficult.
“If I wasn’t fighting for the belt right back, there is no way I could go through guy after guy after guy to build myself back into a title fight.”
There has been talk of GSP making a second comeback to the Octagon. However, a fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov might not be possible. Ali Abdelaziz claimed a phone call could get it done, but it would be risky for GSP’s legacy.
