Jan Blachowicz prepares for title defence against Israel Adesanya
UFC 259 will see Jan Blachowicz defend his light heavyweight title for the first time, as he prepares to take on Israel Adesanya.
The Polish fighter won his light heavyweight belt at UFC 253. Coincidentally, it was also where the Nigerian defended his middleweight belt against Paulo Acosta.
Adesanya has been teasing a step up to light heavyweight for a long time, and he has finally seen an opportunity to act on his promise as Blachowicz got crowned the champion.
Earlier, Chael Sonnen gave his prediction for the fight. He stated that the agility and skill of the 20-0-0 middleweight champion should be enough to overcome Blachowicz.
DC sees an even title fight between Jan Blachowicz and Israel Adesanya
And now, Daniel Cormier, a former UFC lightweight champion, has had his say on the title fight. Speaking to Helen Yee on her YouTube channel, DC started off by saying Blachowicz needed more respect.
“Jan Blachowicz has not gotten the respect that he deserves. He has beaten up everyone that has tried to come up against him in his recent run.”
DC added that there are a lot of areas where the Nigerian holds the advantage.
“Jan Blachowicz is going to be at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of speed against Israel Adesanya. Star power? Israel Adesanya. There’s a lot of things swinging in his favour.”
However, the former UFC heavyweight champion warned Adesanya and asked him to wary of Blachowicz’s knockout power.
“There is just no room for error in a fight against Jan Blachowicz. He can get hit one time. He gets hit by Jan, he’s in trouble. The room for error is so small, it makes it a dangerous fight for Israel Adesanya.
Everyone seems to be saying the same thing, because it quite frankly is the obvious truth. Jan has the power, Adesanya has the speed. It would nevertheless be extremely interesting to see such an even, yet mismatched fight.
