Daniel Cormier believes Jon Jones will compete at heavyweight but would struggle to get his hands on the title

Jon Jones is yet to make his heavyweight debut. The light-heavyweight GOAT dominated the division to the fullest and relinquished his title in mid-2020.

Jones expressed his desire to move to the heavyweight division, which he did in a few days from then. ‘Bones’ began bulking up and is now in his near-final form.

However, it is going to be two years since he stepped inside the Octagon. Come the 2nd week of February, it would be 2 years. He never fought in 2021.

With his debut expected to come in 2022, Jones will probably fight for the title, or one win before he gets a title shot.

In the latest episode of DC&RC, former UFC heavyweight champion, analyst and Jones’ bitter rival, Danie Cormier gave his thoughts about Jones’ chances in the heavyweight division.

Cormier claimed that Jones would fight in the heavyweight division but would lose if he ever fought for the title – probably against Ciryl Gane or Francis Ngannou.

“I believe that Jon Jones will fight at heavyweight and he’ll fight for the belt, but he’ll lose to Ciryl Gane or Francis Ngannou. I just think that the time away, with the weight difference, and those guys being who they are, that’s the problem. It’s not that Jones has gotten worse; it’s just that these guys are a different level of heavyweight.” [via MMA Junkie]
