The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung, faces Brian Ortega in the main event of the latest UFC Fight Night event

The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung, is the right man to get a crack at Alexander Volkanovski’s UFC Featherweight title, according to Daniel Cormier.

The South Korean takes on Brian Ortega in the latest UFC Fight Island event, and is seeking a third consecutive win in the promotion.

Cormier was speaking to the Schmo at Fight Island and was asked who could get a title shot after this clash.

The UFC legend explained why the Korean Zombie would deserve it and added that this UFC division was stacked too:

“I think more for the Korean Zombie. We haven’t seen Ortega for a while and he lost to Max Holloway in the title fight in his last fight.

“You got some contenders, you have Zabit Magomedsharipov, you have Max Holloway who is still in there after the last fight with Volkanovski, Yair Rodriguez, you have Calvin Kattar now.

“When you look at the Korean Zombie, what he did last year, two finishes, very quick and if he can beat Brian Ortega, who is ranked #1, I don’t think you can deny this guy a title shot especially with the following he has.”

Coming back as big as ever

The Zombie also missed more than two years of MMA competition after he underwent mandatory military training for the South Korean Army.

However, Jung came back stronger than ever and he still has a huge following in the UFC. Cormier alluded to that and believed with so much backing, it made sense for him to get a crack at Volkanovski:

“Korean Zombie can go away for years and come back and be as big as a star as he as when he left. He checks all the boxes in terms of who you want fighting for the belt if you want to get the job done.”

It will be interesting to see how the clash goes between the pair. The Zombie might be coming in as a favourite but Ortega cannot be taken lightly.
