Daniel Cormier threw back to a time when he and Khabib Nurmagomedov had an argument over who had more submissions in title fights
It’s been over a year since Khabib Nurmagomedeov announced his retirement. ‘The Eagle’ hung up his gloves after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
Despite numerous speculations of Khabib coming back, the Dagestani remained true to his word. He is now an accomplished mixed martial arts promoter – Eagle Fighting Championship.
Khabib’s dear friend and AKA gym teammate Daniel Cormier recently took to Twitter to throw back to a time when they had an argument about who had more submissions in title fights.
Now that Khabib has more submission wins in title bouts, Cormier took to Twitter to laud Khabib. He wrote:
“@TeamKhabib we once had an argument who had more submissions in title fights, I believe you have now passed. Congrats young blood! This is crazy.”
Fans in the reply section were quite amused since DC’s Tweet came out of the blue, especially because it has been more than a year since Khabib choked out Gaethje.
All three of Khabib Nurmagomedov’s title wins have been by submission
Since winning the title against Al Iaquinta in 2018, Khabib defended his title thrice.
The first was against Conor McGregor at UFC 229. ‘The Eagle’ earned a submission win via. neck crank in the fourth round. A year later, Khabib faced Dustin Poirier. This time he won by submission via. rear-naked choke.
Lastly, it was Gaethje – triangle choke.
