Daniel Cormier left “amazed” after Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

Will Smith created one of the biggest moments in entertainment history at the 2022 Oscars

The world was left in shock after Will Smith decided to slap Chris Rock at the Oscars. Rock made a joke on Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett, and that started it all.

Smith initially laughed at the joke but his wife wasn’t all that pleased. The Men in Black and I am Legend actor walked onto the stage and slapped Rock. However, he shouted out at the comedian while he was seated before walking up on stage to do the deed.

This got a lot of people talking and one of them was Daniel Cormier, the former two-division UFC Champion.

Cormier stated that not a lot shocked him anymore these days, but this certainly caught him out.

Rock’s joke was on Jada being bald and possibly training for a GI Jane movie. Smith’s wife had spoken in the past about her alopecia and her decision to go completely bald.

It’s safe to say, that this joke didn’t work out all that well, but it got a lot of people talking.

Was the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident staged?

It is difficult to ascertain whether this was an off the cuff moment from Smith or this was really planned before.

If you take a closer look at the video, it doesn’t seem like Smith makes a great connection with Rock. Furthermore, Smith was initially smirking at the joke Rock cracked on Jada.

However, Smith just went berserk after a while, and this isn’t something we have seen from the actor previously.

The Oscars needed some sort of talking point as the show had been dealing with plummeting ratings in the past.

The 2021 Oscars was watched by the lowest audience ever. That edition saw a 56% drop from the 2020 edition. This incident between Smith and Rock ensured it was the talking point across the world, something that the Oscars needed.
