Deontay Wilder is set to face Tyson Fury in a trilogy bout on the 24th of July
Just a week ago, Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua was made official. The location was set for Saudi Arabia, and the fight was scheduled for the second week of August.
Out of nowhere, an arbitrator ruled that Fury must face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy bout before the 15th of September, 2021.
This put Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury in jeopardy. However, Fury’s promoter Bob Arum was okay with it. He stated that Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury can wait (probably in 2022).
Despite Fury comprehensively beating Wilder via. TKO (Corner stoppage), he will be fighting the ‘Bronze Bomber’ in a trilogy fight.
Elsewhere, Wilder’s 2008 Olympics teammate Daniel Cormier gave his opinion on Fury vs ‘The Bronze Bomber’
Speaking in the latest episode of DC&Helwani MMA show, Cormier explained how much of a menace Wilder’s right hand could be.
“Deontay is not a big guy. Deontay is only about 220lbs. So, Tyson Fury is massive. Stay big, press him like you did last time, try to remind him why the fight ended in the way that it did last time…But, we know that the Bronze Bomber, has that right hand. And that thing is dynamite. If he can land it, he can ruin all the plans [of Fury].”
Daniel Cormier believes it will be Tyson Fury all the way again
The first time Fury and Wilder met, Wilder scored a massive knockdown in the final round, which saw Fury almost go lights out. However, the Gypsy King recovered like a boss and saw off the final round.
The match ended in a draw, with almost every boxing fan claiming that Fury was robbed. The second match saw Fury go 1-0 up in the rivalry.
Cormier thinks that a repeat of it would probably happen. In the same DC&Helwani and show he said that he would be betting against Wilder:
“If I am betting today, I have to bet against Deontay Wilder…I just don’t know man, I think the size [of Fury] is too much of an issue for him.”
