Daniel Cormier gives his insight on the future of Israel Adesanya after his title fight against Jan Blachowicz
UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is on track to take on Jan Blachowicz for his light heavyweight belt at UFC 259 this weekend.
‘The Last Stylebender’ is looking to conquer two divisions simultaneously as he steps up to 205 for the first time. The predictions are flowing in with regards to the fight itself.
It is widely believed to be Adesanya’s agility against Blachowicz’s knockout power. However, not many have given their thoughts about what ‘Izzy’ would do when the curtain is closed on UFC 259.
And former light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has become one of the few to give his thoughts on this.
DC was talking to ESPN MMA earlier this week and discussed what the Nigerian-born Kiwi would do after the title fight.
Daniel Cormier predicts return to middleweight for Israel Adesanya after Jan Blachowicz fight
Cormier mentioned that he predicts Adesanya to return to 185 if he manages to get his hands on the light heavyweight belt.
“No, I think he will go back. I think 185; that is his optimal weight class, right? I believe, honestly, fighters should cut a little weight, I do.”
DC made these comments with regards to his thoughts to fighters cutting a little weight to be in the weight class they truly belong in.
Adesanya is simply unstoppable at 185. He has never lost a single fight in his professional MMA career and 15 of his 20 MMA wins have come by way of knockout.
But Blachowicz would not be a rollover. 205 is a tricky weight class and the knockout power of the Pole means Adesanya would have to be more careful inside the ring than he usually is.
