Deiveson Figueiredo had some anxious moments at the UFC 263 weigh ins
With just a minute left on the clock, Deiveson Figueiredo stepped in with just 40 seconds left to weigh in at 125lbs. Talk about buzzer-beater; not sure if Kawhi Leonard or ‘Daico’.
The Brazilian flyweight champ is set to face Brandon Moreno in the co-main event of UFC 263 in a rematch – 6 months in the making.
The pair put on a fight for the ages in the main event of UFC 256. The fight ended in a majority draw, with a rematch agreed upon in the immediate aftermath, which was made official a few months later.
At the UFC 263 weigh-ins, Moreno made weight pretty early, while Figueiredo was absent until the last minute, last 40 seconds to be precise.
He then appeared, looking completely drained and sapped, just in the nick of time. However, Daico made weight at 125lbs. Incredible scenes!
Here is how Twitter reacted to the flyweight champ making weight:
Yesterday at the pre-fight press conference, Figueiredo had hinted at a move to the bantamweight division. He further stated that he would possibly move up after beating Moreno, and become a two-division champion.
He was quoted as saying:
“I’m always looking for the big fights and I want the boss to listen to this one. Cause I want him to put me and give me the chance to move up [a weight division]. Cause I want to get that belt.”
And it looks like it might materialize soon, given Figueiredo’s recent struggles to make weight at 125lbs.
