The fourth chapter between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno is scheduled for July, in the first-ever quadrilogy series in UFC
Seldom does it occur that two fighters end up competing in a trilogy series to settle their claim as the better fighter. But when all is said and done, the anticipation and build-up to the rubber match becomes quite monumental and memorable. But it is as scarce as hen’s teeth that two fighters end up fighting each other four times, honestly unprecedented.
The UFC flyweight division was once considered to be scrapped by the UFC, but the resurgence set in motion by former double champion Henry Cejudo picked up momentum when Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo faced each other at UFC 256. The bout ended up being one of the most gripping and convulsing 25 minutes inside the octagon, which was scored a majority draw.
The pair met again at UFC 263, but Moreno showed up with supreme confidence and a domineering skillset, finishing Deiveson via rear-naked choke in the third round in a lopsided contest.
For the first time in UFC history, two fighters met each other thrice in succession to settle their claim as the best flyweight once and for all. The consequence was another glorious fight for the history books- an edge of the seat pillar to post contest. Figueiredo got the best of Moreno in the trilogy with a unanimous decision victory, making the overall record between them 1-1-1.
If the historic consecutive three fights weren’t enough, the UFC is reportedly working on a fourth fight between the pair, cementing it as one of the greatest rivalries in UFC history.
The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani, who tweeted by saying,
‘ UFC has decided to go with Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Brandon Moreno 4 for the UFC flyweight title next, sources say. The hope is to do it in July.’
In the words of the boss-man Dana White, this is one of those fights where you put these two inside the octagon every weekend, and people will tune in to watch. The quadrilogy fight will perhaps settle this match-up once and forever, as other contenders are lining up to contest for the belt.
