Deiveson Figueiredo has never fought in the bantamweight division before
Figueiredo takes on Brandon Moreno in the co-main event of UFC 263, this weekend. The pair will be running back their UFC 256 fight which ended in a majority draw.
After winning the flyweight title against Joseph Benavidez in July, last year, ‘Daico’ has gone on to defend his belt once, and then retain it against Moreno.
And now, at the pre-fight press conference which concluded yesterday, Figueiredo expressed his desire in moving up a weight class and taking on the bantamweight division.
He said that he would consider a move after he beats Moreno this weekend and retains the flyweight title.
The Brazilian sounded like he was determined to get the bantamweight belt and become a two-division champion.
He said:
“I’m always looking for the big fights and I want the boss to listen to this one. Cause I want him to put me and give me the chance to move up [a weight division]. Cause I want to get that belt.”
Figueiredo has vowed to end Moreno this time. In a recent interview with the UFC, he claimed that he didn’t like Moreno talking too much.
‘Daico’ went on to divulge that he was only 30 percent of his own self in his first fight against ‘The Assassin Baby’, but still managed to put on a show.
Figueiredo was quoted as saying:
“Brandon talks too much. I was really sick the first time — I was 30 percent of what I can be — and I still won, so imagine me at 100 percent. He said I wasn’t sick and he’s going to knock me out this time, but I’m going to show him that he’s wrong.” [via UFC.com]
