Former UFC star is prepared to bet half a million dollars on Jake Paul as he prepares Ben Askren fight
Jake Paul and Ben Askren are scheduled to go head to head in a boxing match on April 17th, 2021.
The fight, which is being fought under the Triller Fight Club banner, has garnered a lot of attention. The former Bellator champion is not really known for his boxing.
And while Paul is not a seasoned boxer himself, the YouTuber can pack a punch. Askren has a long list of accomplishments and is a world-class wrestler.
But a lot of people are siding with Jake Paul because of ‘Funky’ having a weak stand-up game. And he found another supporter in Demetrious Johnson as he was with The Schmo earlier this week.
‘Mighty Mouse revealed that as a fellow MMA fighter, he wanted Askren to prevail in that fight.
“I mean, they both wrestle. When I look at Jake Paul, and I look at Ben Askren, I want Ben Askren to win.”
Demetrious Johnson ready to bet on Jake Paul ahead of Ben Askren
But when it comes to money, the ONE Championship fighter says that he would go with his brain over his heart.
“But If I was a betting man, I came to the table and I was like ‘I have $500,000, so it’s gonna be Ben Askren or Jake Paul’, I’m just gonna go with Jake Paul. I’m rooting for Ben Askren but I don’t think he’s taking out Jake Paul.”
DJ and Funky have a little bit of history of their own. It was Johnson who was traded by UFC in exchange for Ben Askren from ONE Championship in 2019.
Could that be clouding the flyweight legend’s judgement? Perhaps not. Because what he says does make sense.
Paul looks like he can deliver a killer blow whereas Askren does not. If the fight was inside an octagon, Askren would win without a shadow of a doubt.
But with it being inside the boxing ring, you just cannot tell.
