Derek Brunson responds to Kevin Holland stating that he’s retired following his fight against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 279
Kevin Holland was scheduled to face Daniel Rodriguez in a catchweight bout at UFC 279. However, the bout had to be rejigged since Khamzat Chimaev missed weight. The American ended up facing the undefeated Chechen in the co-main event.
The fight did not see the second round as Chimaev rag-dolled his opponent and finished the fight with a D’Arce Choke. Holland (23-8, 1 NC) snapped his two-fight win streak with this loss.
It is presumptuous that Holland got paid handsomely for accepting the fight against the welterweight behemoth in a day’s notice. ‘Trailblazer’ confirmed the same when he posted a cryptic message on social media, suggesting that he’s retired.
Holland also launched a poll asking his fans what his next career move should be following his retirement.
“Retired before 30,” the UFC welterweight wrote on social media. “Had a good run, 30 in a little over a month, got paid, I’m out. Next career choice?”
Derek Bruson faced Kevin Holland in the UFC Vegas 22 main event. Brunson snapped the five-fight win streak of Holland. He utilized his wrestling in a structured game plan to coast through a decision victory.
Holland on the other hand spent majority of his time inside the octagon talking to Khabib Nurmagomedov who was ringside at the event.
Brunson suggested that a lopsided loss to Chimaev might have fueled the impulsive decision for Holland.
“Khamzat Chimaev knocked Kevin Holland straight into retirement 😂😂😂.”
