Randa Markos lost her fight against Luana Pinheiro via. DQ due to an illegal upkick
Another fight night, another DQ loss – In the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 25, veteran Randa Markos took on Luana Pinheiro in a strawweight bout.
Markos was coming off a three-fight skid and was looking forward to getting out of the rut. Whereas, Pinheiro had just beaten Stephanie Frausto at Dana White’s Contender Series in 2020, and was making her UFC debut.
Both the fighters started off the fight aggressively, but it was Pinheiro who was landing the cleaner strikes. After a momentary pause due to an eye poke to Markos, the fight went ahead.
With just a minute remaining in the first round, Markos landed an upkick to a grounded Pinheiro, sending her dazed into the canvas.
The fight was called off, and Markos was handed a DQ loss against Pinheiro, as Pinheiro was carried off backstage by her coach, since she struggled to come to her senses.
However, a majority of the MMA community seemed to hint that Pinheiro was overplaying the upkick. A lot drew comparisons with the recent Aljamain Sterling – Petr Yan incident, and top-ranked middleweight Derek Brunson was one among them.
Brunson wasn’t one bit impressed with Pinheiro’s reaction to the upkick. He took a dig at the way she reacted comparing it with WWE and NBA.
Here’s what Brunson wrote on Twitter:
“Is it just me or is everyone who is illegally struck in a fight in 2021, auditioning to get an Oscar. Them WWE reactions & nba flops.”
Darren Till is a goofy guy. The Liverpudlian recently fell out of the top 5 of the middleweight rankings, after he pulled out of a fight against Marvin Vettori, after injuring his collar bone.
He is on the lookout for his next opponent, and has landed his eyes on Derek Brunson.
Brunson who is also interested in fighting Till, shared a hilarious story about the Scouse in an interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN.
He revealed how Till DMs him wishing him well for a while, and then shifts to sending a middle finger the next second.
Brunson went on to say that Till was all over the place and a little weird.
