Derek Brunson has an interesting suggestion for Jon Jones’ next fight
It has almost been a year since Jon Jones moved to the heavyweight division, and he is yet to make his debut.
A payment dispute with UFC President Dana White has been the source of all his troubles. He was expected to face heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but the chance has fallen to Derrick Lewis instead.
Elsewhere, number 3 ranked heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane cemented his position as a top-ranked heavyweight following his win over Alexander Volkov in the main event of UFC Vegas 30.
The Frenchman showed too much speed and technicality, levels above a normal heavyweight would exhibit.
Following his win, number 5 ranked UFC middleweight Derek Brunson had an interesting suggestion to make. He claimed that Gane vs Jones would be a dream matchup due to both the fighters exhibiting a calculated approach in their game.
Brunson also mentioned that Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones “can wait.”
“Give me Jon Jones vs Cyril Gane. I can wait on Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones ! What a perfect matchup with the measured calculated approach by Jones and Gane!!!”
Derek Brunson has silently risen through the rungs of the middleweight ladder in the last couple of years. Since his loss to middleweight champion Israel Adesanya in 2018, he has gone on to win, all four of his next fights.
He recently stopped the high-flying Kevin Holland, earlier this year. Following his top form, he recently broke into the top 5 of the middleweight rankings.
Brunson is now scheduled to fight number 7 ranked middleweight Darren Till. The fight is expected to take place in the first week of September.
