Derrick Lewis wants Stipe Miocic in his next fight after UFC Fight Night 185 win against Curtis Blaydes
UFC heavyweight star Derrick Lewis was the man of the hour after the end of the UFC Fight Night 185 main event this weekend.
He beat Curtis Blaydes via KO in round 2 to land a massive upset. After the fight, he was asked who he wants next, and his answer was emphatic.
He named Stipe Miocic. Of course. Miocic is the current UFC heavyweight champion and is scheduled to defend his belt at UFC 260 against Francis Ngannou.
“I guess Stipe… I guess Stipe [Miocic]. I like the wrestlers”
That answer was pretty direct and to the point, much like his UFC win last night. He is now a four-fight win streak and is understandably having his eye on UFC gold next.
This weekend’s UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas had the biggest shock on cards since Michael Bisping beat Luke Rockhold at UFC 199.
Lewis knocked out Blayeds in round 2 with a vicious uppercut. No one saw it coming.
Before the fight, ‘Rayzor’ was beating the drum about him going to use his wrestling early on in the fight against Lewis.
Maybe he should have stuck to that. He didn’t, and Lewis was on hand to land a vicious punch to grab his 12th UFC knockout victory, which is as many as the record-holder Vitor Belfort.
A fight against Miocic would be interesting. Lewis was #5 coming into the fight, and Blaydes was at #3. Any potential match between the two might also depend on the outcome of UFC 260.
Nevertheless, it would be an interesting fight. Lewis would also be thinking that it is about time he is in a title fight since his UFC 230 loss against Daniel Cormier.
