Diego ‘The Nightmare’ Sanchez was recently released by the UFC
Sanchez who holds the longest uninterrupted tenure on the active roster in the UFC, was recently released by the promotion out of the blue.
He was scheduled to take on Donald Cerrone at UFC Vegas 26. It was expected to be his farewell fight in the UFC.
Sanchez, the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 1, had been a part of the UFC since April 2005, and hence his release came as a shock to many.
However, it was revealed that the UFC released him since his coach Joshua Fabia had asked the UFC to provide all of Sanchez’s 16-year long medical reports and documents.
Sensing that something was fishy, the UFC further investigated and got to know that Sanchez wouldn’t be able to provide full assurance that he wasn’t suffering from any health issues.
That was when the UFC immediately decided to release him.
In a recent interview with SiriusXM’s MMA today, Sanchez revealed that he was fearing for his life. He claimed that the monopoly that is, UFC, might harm him, in fact even kill him in the coming years.
A fearful Sanchez told SiriusXM’s RJ Clifford:
“I’m going to tell you guys frankly right now, I’m fearful for my motherf*cking life…Something might happen to me in two years. Maybe in a couple years, maybe I wreck my truck. Maybe I, ‘Oh, Diego overdosed, some suicide sh*t.’ I don’t know. But I would not put anything past the level of evil that is within this corporation.” [via MMA Fighting]
Diego Sanchez tears into UFC President Dana White
Sanchez has been immensely dejected since his release.
‘The Nightmare’ unable to fathom the pangs of such a happening, tore into the UFC President Dana White, in the same interview.
Sanchez however claimed that he was still open to a meeting with the UFC President.
He then added that he was the first-ever Ultimate Fighter and that he was one of the reasons why the show picked up, thereby helping the then debt-stricken UFC, Sanchez asked White to be a “f*king man”, and spare at least 45 minutes for him.
