Diego Sanchez explains why Khabib Nurmagomedov is the GOAT ahead of Jon Jones

There are several names that feature on a list of the GOATs in the UFC but Jon Jones and Khabib Nurmagomedov are always in the mix.

The pair have dominated their respective divisions over the years and have just one loss between them. Jones’ loss came via a DQ as he seemed to have thrown illegal elbows but that was very early in his career.

Khabib, for his part, is yet to taste defeat and has defeated top stars such as Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor.

While Jones moves up to the Heavyweight division, Khabib will defend his Lightweight title against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.

Diego Sanchez, a UFC legend, was speaking to Helen Yee and was asked about this clash. The 38-year-old faces Jake Matthews at UFC 253 but claimed that Khabib was the greatest of all-time, even ahead of Jones:

“I was just wearing my Khabib shirt. Reason why I have that shirt, I look up to Khabib for the honour he carries.

“He is a very honourable man. He respects his father, his religion and just so many things, Ramadan. He is a true classy champion and in my opinion, the greatest of all-time currently.

“Some people might argue Jon Jones but without a doubt for me, it’s Khabib. His undefeated record and the class that he brings as a human being.”

A clash for the ages?

Gaethje defeated Tony Ferguson to pick up the interim Lightweight title, and many believe his wrestling background could be a problem for Khabib.

Khabib and Gaethje also have the same manager in Ali Abdelaziz, and this should be an interesting fight.

Khabib has to be at his best to get the better of Gaethje. The pair should put on a show soon, and this could turn out to be one of the matches of the year.
