Questions were raised about the retirement on Donald Cerrone after his loss at UFC Vegas 26
Cerrone further sunk into oblivion, as he saw his winless streak extend to 6. Cowboy hasn’t won a fight since June 2019!
Coming off an NC against Niko Price, Cerrone was itching to get back to winning ways, when he took on short-notice opponent Alex Morono. But unfortunately, the veteran couldn’t last even a single round as he was mauled by a standing TKO from Morono.
The 38-year old Cerrone is a man of many records. He has the most number of wins in the UFC, most finishes in the UFC, has a ton of Performance of the Night awards, and whatnot. However, his recent form has been a massive worry and has raised questions about his retirement.
After his loss to Morono, Cowboy spoke to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, and was asked about how he was feeling physically.
Saying that he was “heartbroken”, Cowboy opened up about his future:
“I don’t know man, I don’t know what to answer you on, is it that time [to retire]? I don’t know, I don’t feel like it, but how I feel and how I perform are two different things, you know?”
Donald Cerrone gives props to Alex Morono
Cerrone was initially scheduled to face Diego Sanchez. Sanchez was released by the UFC, which almost caused the fight to be withdrawn.
However, Alex Morono stepped in on short notice, and was up to the task. He got the job done in double-quick time.
Cerrone acknowledges Morono’s performance and gave props to him in his interview with Brett Okamoto.
Cerrone said:
“No excuses man! The kid came in and he was ready.”
